Care for teens
Adolescent PHP (Partial Hospitalization Program)
Intensive day treatment for teens facing mental health and substance use challenges — with school built into the treatment day.

About this program
Adolescent PHP
Adolescence brings profound physical, emotional, and social change, and with it real vulnerability to mental health and substance use problems. An adolescent PHP provides intensive therapeutic support designed specifically for that age — more than outpatient therapy offers, without the immersion of residential care.
Every adolescent arrives with a different story, so treatment starts with a comprehensive assessment and an individualized plan. The program provides structure and therapeutic support during the day while teens return home each evening, keeping family life part of the work rather than separate from it.
Adolescent PHP is provided at The Academy in Port St. Lucie. Because the program runs during school hours, an onsite teacher provides daily classes and tutoring so patients do not fall behind in their studies.
Admission and assessment
On arrival, each adolescent is assessed by a multidisciplinary team — psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapeutic staff — to understand their needs, strengths, and challenges. That assessment becomes an individualized treatment plan, revisited as the teen progresses.
What the program includes
- Individual therapy
The cornerstone of the program. Licensed therapists use CBT, DBT, and related modalities to build tools for managing difficult emotions and behaviors.
- Group therapy
A facilitated space for teens to share experiences and support one another — building social skills and empathy along the way.
Psychoeducation
Teens learn about their conditions, coping strategies, and self-advocacy. Knowledge dismantles stigma and gives recovery a foundation.
- Family involvement
Family therapy sessions improve communication, address relational dynamics, and help parents understand what their teen is working through.
Life skills training
Time management, stress management, and communication — practical skills that support recovery and the rest of growing up.
Continued education
An onsite teacher provides daily classes and tutoring during program hours, so treatment does not cost a semester.
After the program
The transition out of a structured program is its own clinical moment, especially for adolescents. Continued support — stepped-down therapy, family work, and an aftercare plan — is built before discharge so the progress made in PHP carries into school, home, and everyday life.
