From lush beaches to bustling nightlife and a wide range of leisure activities, Palm Beach County has all the ingredients for an enjoyable vacation. However, there is another reality beneath the surface–one of drug and alcohol misuse, and addiction.

At Ambrosia, we play a vital role in the overall well-being of our clients. Thus, we offer many approaches to treatment to focus on the whole-person in recovery. We know addiction impacts many areas in life, like a person’s health, relationships, and financial security. As a result, we stay up-to-date with new approaches in treatment while connecting clients to tried-and-true community supports.
Throughout South Florida, drug addiction frequently stems from prescription medication misuse. Today, two of the most commonly abused prescriptions in the U.S. are opioids and benzodiazepines. Combining both substances can lead to deadly consequences. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Benzodiazepines were involved in 6,982 (16.8%) of 41,496 overdose deaths from January 2019 to June 2020 reported by 23 states, with opioids involved in 6,384 (91.4%) benzodiazepine deaths.”
Prescription opioids treat pain from physical health issues and chronic medical conditions. Opioids activate opioid receptors in the brain responsible for regulating pain and rewarding specific behaviors. They remain highly addictive, however. Opioid abuse in Jupiter, Florida, and throughout other U.S. towns is attributed to the misuse of prescription painkillers.
Many people struggling with opioid use disorder unintentionally become addicted to their prescriptions. Consequently, misuse of opioids occurs when a person uses their prescription for euphoric effects. These effects are not related to relieving physical pain.
Fentanyl abuse is another reason opioid-related overdose deaths continue to rise. The drug is 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Often, fentanyl gets mixed into other opioids like heroin to get users hooked more easily. Thus, fentanyl abuse in South Florida contributes to the rising number of hospitalizations and deaths from opioids yearly.
Benzodiazepines, or “benzos,” are also frequently misused by some people in Jupiter, Florida. These medications treat anxiety, sleep disorders, and seizures. Like opioids, benzos can also give users feelings of euphoria and relaxation. Moreover, benzodiazepines work by calming overactive minds.
Insomnia, seizures, and anxiety disorders are often the result of brains that “don’t seem to shut off.” Benzos can help relax the central nervous system to reduce brain activity. Some prescriptions are fast-acting for the sudden onset of symptoms, like panic attacks. Unfortunately, these powerful medications carry a high risk of abuse.
Common brand name benzodiazepines include:
Drug use in Jupiter is no different from most other towns and cities of South Florida. One reason being is tourist areas tend to bring lots of drug trafficking to the towns of South Florida. Since South Florida is a popular tourist area, both illegal and prescription drugs are sought after and profitable for drug dealers in the area.
South Florida also boasts a high number of drug treatment centers compared to other areas in the U.S. Sadly, some dealers take advantage of vulnerable individuals in recovery, and the temptation to relapse is high due to the availability of drugs in South Florida. In fact, the Palm Beach County Substance Awareness Coalition reports that teens and young adults become addicted to opioids in one of three ways.
The earlier that a person uses substances, the more likely they are to become addicted as adults. Teens and young adults struggling with substance abuse disorders could become adults with the same issues. Getting treatment early is the best way to prevent developing a substance use disorder later in life. However, it is never too late to seek help for drug addiction.
Due to the issues of drug abuse in Jupiter, Florida and other Palm Beach County communities, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has enacted a program to:
Levels of care for addiction treatment are a comprehensive and multi-faceted approach to treating substance use disorder. Each level of care at Jupiter rehab meets the individual needs of every client. This includes a variety of interventions, services, and treatments at multiple levels, which progress in intensity and focus as a person moves through the recovery process. The goal is to provide a continuum of care that allows individuals to step down from more intensive forms of treatment to less restrictive programs
Depending on the severity of addiction and any existing mental health issues, levels of care might include:
Safe, comfortable, and medically supervised detoxification is the best way to begin the recovery journey. Our clinical team uses medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to carefully minimize withdrawal symptoms and ease clients through the detoxification process.
Our inpatient addiction treatment provides an intensive and comprehensive approach to treating substance use and mental health disorders. This involves around-the-clock care in our licensed residential facility. During this time, individuals receive therapeutic interventions from professional staff, including physicians, nurses, and mental health clinicians. Additionally, inpatient treatment includes individualized treatment plans, multiple behavioral therapies, dual diagnosis treatment, as well as adequate lengths of stay.
IOP addresses the same issues as inpatient treatment but without 24/7 supervision or support. IOP requires at least a nine-hour weekly commitment, continued for three to twelve months until clients feel confident in their sobriety. Group therapy sessions, individual counseling, and other therapeutic activities are designed to help individuals learn how to cope with their addiction and develop healthy habits.
Clients step down to outpatient care after completing more intense levels of addiction treatment. This allows a person to live at home or in a sober living home while taking the lessons learned in previous treatment and putting them into practice. Furthermore, depending on the program, clients may attend sessions from once or twice a week to daily sessions. Sessions usually last just a few hours per day and for several months, often decreasing in the number of hours required per week as the individual makes progress.
The benefits of our Jupiter rehab center can help clients get better after addiction causes issues in their lives. Above all, a person gains the skills needed to not only get sober but to advance a person’s overall quality of life.
Benefits of our rehab include the following:

I was extremely worried about my husband. He was being irrational and not thinking clearly. I felt like he wasn’t going to be accepting of treatment and instead would just go through the motions. But, his therapist and the staff stuck with it and I felt comfortable that I could relax and didn’t have to take on everything on my own.
Ambrosia is the real deal. I received true individualized treatment while attending to my business and personal affairs at home. This relieved the stigma of being in rehab and gave me the independence I needed to tackle my disease with one foot in the real world while receiving clinical supervision and feedback. Thank you for giving me my life back!
My experience at Ambrosia was very positive. They made treatment as comfortable as possible and the amenities were wonderful. The staff and holistic services were great and it was not a stressful environment at all. There was plenty of time for relaxation and self-examination, as well as time to work on my recovery. While I was resistant to go away for treatment it certainly was a wise decision. I’m so glad my family chose Ambrosia. Thank you so much!!
There is not enough time in a day to describe how grateful I am for everyone at Ambrosia. From admissions through post care, every staff member and clinical personnel were kind, friendly, supportive and sincere with getting me the best treatment that I needed. The knowledge and care that everyone provided for me was first class, and extremely beneficial. I would highly recommend Ambrosia to anyone who thinks they might have a problem.
I benefited greatly from Ambrosia. It changed my life. I needed to re-calibrate my thinking, rekindle a strong spiritually connection and learn more about how to stay sober. The staff was terrific and made things go seamlessly. I am looking forward to continuing the work that needs to be done with my therapist.
I experienced many breakthroughs while here at Ambrosia and for that I am grateful.
Fantastic experience. Knowledgeable staff. Treated fairly. Beautiful location.
The living space at Ambrosia Singer Island is extremely comfortable. The rooms and common areas are kept very clean. The counselors are good. I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for a more mature atmosphere (age>30) for their treatment.
The counseling is top notch, some of the best I’ve ever had. The techs were extremely helpful and accommodating. The facility is beautiful. Overall, a great program that I’d recommend to anyone I care about.
Overall, a comfortable experience. Ate well and had time to relax and reflect. Small group is very beneficial. Counselors seem skilled and understanding. A good time away from substances and time to get a clear head.
I love the approach of Ambrosia Treatment Center at Singer Island to heal not only mind, body and soul but to also educate about the addiction and to understand the underlying problems associated with drinking.
This place is awesome.
It was a good experience. If you work the system it works for you. This was my first 30 day program and it was nice to be with other adults and learn how to get along with people again.
To be honest, Ambrosia did help me a lot from the beginning. Very good counselors that really want the best for you, if you are willing to do the work.
It has been an incredible experience, what I needed. I have gone from “why can’t I stop?” to “what can I do to prevent a relapse?”.
Wonderful experience. I enjoyed the serenity and easy going staff. It is easy to talk with the staff, they treat you very professionally, never put you down. If I ever had a question, Everybody got back to me. They made me feel good when they knew me by name the first day. I felt like I fit in. Facility is very clean, lots to do. Nice outside environment. So much I liked
Love Ambrosia and the staff here. Top notch, top notch.
It was a good step. I had a good experience here because of the housing, staff and community.
Great facility. Caring and respectful staff. Good place to complete treatment.
A very structured program with a good balance and helps with co-occurring disorders. Not faith-based program. Wonderful program with highly trained counselors.
My husband struggled with addiction most of his life and has been to several facilities. I hoped that this time he would make a change. He did complete the program….and he has his life back. I have my husband back! After so many years, I am just grateful he’s on the right track. He shared with me that the clinical staff met with him and created a unique program to work for his needs. They were very supportive to him and me. I would recommend this center to anyone that needs support and understanding.
The best decision I ever made was coming to Ambrosia. It was a very positive experience that has aided in saving and shaping my life.
