"Does my mom need detox?"
Asked by HopetrackerA3 Seen by 189
My mom has been an alcoholic for as long as I can remember, and I rarely see her without a drink in her hand. In the past, she’s avoided treatment because she’s scared of experiencing a painful withdrawal. But her health is continuing to deteriorate, and I think she finally realizes that she can’t keep living her life this way. Do treatment centers require that a patient detox first? Any responsible treatment center will require their patients to be evaluated for detox before they are admitted, especially with substances such as alcohol or benzodiazepine abuse where the risk of seizure is extremely high. It sounds like your Mother will need a medical detox where her vital signs and symptoms can be monitored 24/7. These facilities are very adept at making sure the patient is not suffering painful withdrawals using a protocol of medication.
