"Does depression cause addiction?"
Asked by HopetrackerA3 Seen by 187
When my brother came home from serving in the war in Iraq, he was suffering from severe PTSD. I don’t know what he went through so I feel bad even judging, but when I met him at a bar the other night, he was downing straight vodka like it was water. We used to drink together socially, but this just felt different. It felt wrong. Now I’m worried that my brother’s obsessive drinking is “helping” him to get through each day. I think he's drinking too much but how can I tell for sure? Click here to report this post as inappropriate. flag

It sounds like you already know the answer, which can sometimes be the hardest part of this whole process. Your instincts are telling you something is off. You mentioned that “it felt wrong.” All of these are red flags that you should not overlook. Try talking to your brother about your concerns and offer your support, then bring up treatment.
